Official Burke County Record Contacts

For current jail custody, start with the Burke County Sheriff's Office and Burke County Jail. The sheriff operates the local jail population system and its Open Records Request page lists inmate records, photos, videos, citations, policies, and procedures among requestable records.

The sheriff's open-records page says the ORR Major responds within three business days of receipt. Fees may apply. If an estimated cost is more than $25, the agency may wait for the requester to agree before searching or retrieving records; if the estimate is more than $500, prepayment may be required. The first 15 minutes of employee time are free. Payments by check or money order may be mailed payable to Burke County Sheriff's Office, P.O. Box 702, Waynesboro, GA 30830, and the page also notes in-person payment options and a card convenience fee.

For court filings after an arrest, contact the Burke County Clerk of Superior, State, and Juvenile Court rather than the jail.

Use these routes based on what you need:

• For someone held in the county jail, use jail inmate records and the sheriff's inmate inquiry gateway before calling 706-554-2133.
• For booking photos or roster image questions, use jail roster mugshots and the sheriff open-records form if the public image slot is blank.
• For charges, filings, hearings, or case documents after booking, use court records after a jail arrest and the Clerk's office or PeachCourt path.

• For a sentenced Georgia prisoner, use the Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender tool. GDC also lists inmate concerns/questions at 404-656-4661 and says written verification may be sent to Inmate Records and Information, P.O. Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029.
• For federal prisoners, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator. For immigration detention, use ICE ODLS or ICE's Detention Reporting and Information Line at 1-888-351-4024.
